The anodic oxidation and corrosion of α-brasses (13.2 and 32.2% Zn) were investigated in Na2SO4 solutions under different experimental conditions using cyclic voltammetric technique and complemented with X-ray diffraction analysis. The anodic responses of the brass display two potential regions. The first anodic region shows two anodic peaks correspondent to selective dissolution of zinc and copper. The anodic dissolution enhances with increasing potential scan rate, SO4−2 ion concentration and temperature. The surface film consists of ZnO and Cu2O. The cathodic responses comprise various complex processes characterized by the contribution of four current peaks.
