Abstract
Unidirectional solidification for the peritectic alloys exhibited the oscillatory structures at high temperature gradients where the plannar or the cellular interface was stable. One of the oscillatory structure was the banded structure in which the two constituent phases alternatively form parallel to the growth direction. The other is the fluctuated structure in which the two phases did not cover the other phase and the three phase junction fluctuated in the radial direction during unidirectional solidification. A proposed model based on mass transfer around the solidified interface suggests that position of the three phase junction is unstable even if the steady state of solute valance is achieved. Instability of the three phase junction causes the oscillatory structure and it is an intrinsic solidified structure of peritectic alloys.
