Abstract
Mobility Management is a transportation management policy that was established with the aim of reducing the use of private vehicles and promoting greater use of public transportation modes.
This report has two parts : the firstintroducesa rent-a-bicycle experiment which offers the use of electric bicycles to the public ; the second part explains the Mobility Management policy, which has been introduced in Katsurazaka in Kyoto.
As a result of the experiment, there has been an increased use in the electric bicycles that are being used in the rent-a-bicycle project, and users have positively commented that they would like to participate in this system. Rent-a-bicycle is a system whereby a few bicycles are available to many people, proving to be a very appropriate system for the urban situation. The results of this research show that there is a definite demand for the rent-a-bicycle concept.
As a result of the Mobility Management policy, citizens tend to reduce the use of cars and increase the use of public transport. Ultimately the reportreveals that Mobility Management, a psychological measure, is actually effective in changing public travel behaviors.
