Membrane proteins play central roles in various superior functions of biological membranes. Recently, medicinestargeting the membrane proteins have been extensively studied. However, misfolding and aggregation of membraneproteins induced by their own hydrophobic surfaces have hampered the advance of research. Developments of chap-eroning science of efficient reconstitutionof membrane proteins into liposomes as active forms are important issues. In this review, we report recent studies of proteo–liposome engineering to apply membrane proteins as new nanode-vices to nanomedicine such as drug delivery system and bioanalysis.
