Abstract
We present a numerical method to simulate the filtration process of particle suspensions. Our numerical frame work is based on the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) for fluid dynamics and the discrete element method (DEM) for particle dynamics, which are fully coupled using the smoothed profile method (SPM). Using the model, we simulate the filtration of particle suspension under a dead–end and constant-pressure condition. The effects of rolling friction torque on the behaviors of particles captured by the filter are investigated. Our simulation results demonstrate that rolling friction coefficients shift the position where the particles deposited and thus change the time evolutions of permeate flux.
