Abstract
Polymeric membrane–based gas separation technology has various advantages such as small footprint, easy maintenance, operation without chemicals, and low energy (i.e., cost–effective) process. Therefore, membrane separation technology has been expected as a useful candidate for carbon capture and natural gas sweetening applications. Actual flue gas or industrial gas involves various minor components as impurity such as water vapor, inert gases, carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons, sour gases, etc. These minor components seriously impact on the membrane performance and the influence appears as membrane swelling/plasticization, competitive sorption, chemically aging. Herein, the impurity impacts on gas separation performance of polymeric membranes were systematically investigated to design the useful membrane materials in actual industrial applications.
