Abstract
When material contacts to blood, a plasma protein absorb and a platelet adhere on the surface which are induced to unexpected thrombus formation. Surface modification and coating technology for hollow fiber of membrane oxygenator are significance to improve the blood compatibility for long–term use. In this review paper, we summarized a useful coating and immobilization method to anti–thrombotic property on the membrane oxygenator. One is immobilization of antithrombotic reagents like heparin and NO gas, the other is a coating of biocompatible polymers which has inhibit a protein adsorption and a platelet adhesion, and the last is formation of endothelialization. For next generation artificial lung of further extend continuous use period, an improvement of coating durability with keeping functions such as antithrombotic is required.
