Abstract
The induction period (IP) of the BZ reaction is sensitive to a variety of parameters, one of them being the organic substrate used in the reaction. Herein, we analyzed how the IP behaves when the organic substrate is malonic acid (MA), methylmalonic acid (MetMA), ethylmalonic acid (EtMA), or buthylmalonic acid (ButMA) in the presence or absence of lipid membranes of 1,2–dioleoyl–sn–glycero–3–phosphocholine (DOPC) or 1,2–dipalmitoyl–sn–glycero– 3–phosphocholine (DPPC). The IP responded to the presence of lipid bilayers as well as the logP, an indicator of hydrophobicity of the substrate, since P is the partition coefficient in octanol and water, and even a linear relation was found between log(IP) and the substrate’s Taft constant (σ*). In addition, DOPC membranes produced a break during the IP that could be related to sequential oscillations.
