Abstract
Organic, inorganic, and metal–based materials for membrane technologies have been studied and developed, and membranes made from some of these materials have been applied to industrial applications. In particular, polyimides have excellent fiber–forming properties with good thermal, chemical, and mechanical durability, so are used to manufacture asymmetric hollow fiber membranes for use in many membrane separation processes. This review introduces the material characteristics of polyimides, membrane properties of polyimide hollow fiber membranes, and applications as membranes for gas and vapor separation.
