In recent years, membrane filtration systems are installed more actively in the field of small waterworks to remove particles and microorganisms. However, membrane fouling still remains an important issue in many applications of membrane filtration. In order to suppress membrane fouling, a new process which combines the conventional membrane filtration process with an advanced ozone treatment was studied. The results of the study demonstrates that the membrane filtration coupled with ozonation is an efficient method for suppressing organic fouling arising from eutrophic surface water.
