Abstract

Electrophoretic Display (EPD) has some advantages over conventional Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) for watches. EPD can be formed in curved surface, and has higher black and white contrast, wider view angle, and lower power consumption compared to LCD. Electrode structure, driving method, and contents of the display were all developed exclusively to match the integrated design of the watch with curved surface display. In 2006, we introduced SEIKO SPECTRUM to the world market. This watch was the first watch that utilized EPD technology.
