Abstract

Currently, about 13,000 CT devices are installed in Japan. And all the CT devices are based on the Energy-integrating detector that developed in 1997.

In the case of conventional CT, there are some restrictions due to hardware development limits and clinical reasons. Photon counting CT is expected all over the world as a next-generation CT for the Energy-integrating detector CT. This year, Siemens Healthineers launched the world’s first clinical photon counting CT as a technological innovation for the first time in about 25 years. In this article, I would like to introduce the principles, features, clinical advantages, and future directions of photon counting CT.
