Deep learning, which gained attention in 2012, laid the foundation for the current AI boom. The development traces back to the 1970s, with advancements driven by neural network research. In the early 2000s, computer-aided diagnosis systems emerged, but AI was still seen as a futuristic concept. Many believed AI had to fully replace humans to be considered legitimate, leading to skepticism toward automated diagnosis. Over the past 20 years, regulatory acceptance has progressed, allowing AI-assisted imaging systems in clinical practice. However, trust in AI remains a challenge. Research on human-AI interaction and nudging aims to improve its integration.
