The integrated intensities of diffraction by oriented powder specimens were studied for the case of X-ray diffractometry, with particular reference to the orientation of single crystals in the specimens. From geometrical considerations, an intensity formula with a term concerning the orientation was deduced, and to confirm the formula, the basal reflections of several flat specimens of muscovite and illite with various modes of orientation were examined.
