In order to gain insight into the social and ceremonial life of the Ainu, the author undertook between 1951 and 1954 a series of field trips. The present paper presents data on the following subjects : 1. Tatoo and upshor (underbelt), both adornments of the post-adolescent women. 2. Itokupa (ancestral symbols) kept by the men. 3. Marriage regulations within the shine-upshor (issue from the same womb) 4. Traditions around marriage problems. 5. Burial customs with regard to the above aspects.
