Abstract
This article describes the diverse activities of adults with intellectual disabilities who visit Babita House in rural Philippines, where there are limited number of specialists, underdeveloped public system and strict social resources. In particular, I consider social inclusion based on interactions among the members, the local residents, and the supporters. The main principle of this facility is (1) to create a place for the members, (2) the members as co-operators, and (3) to bridge local communities. It is frequently used by five people with intellectual disabilities aged around thirties. The main activities include cooking, washing, cleaning, learning educational tasks, farming, caring livestock, participating in local sports competitions, selling goods, and hosting events with the local residents. As a result of fieldwork, (1) it is a facility where the members can work on activities with common members and common time at a common place with confidence. (2) In the facility, the supporter does not excessively intervene, and the members develop activities while supporting each other. (3) In the relationship with the members and the local residents, the members have new ideas. Moreover, the members are involved in the local community and their activities are expanding. The supporter of Babita House mentions that disability becomes obvious, when human relationships become weaker. In considering social inclusion, it is important to focus on the shift from passive members of the local community to active members.
