Many virtual microscope technologies, including whole slide imaging (WSI), use red-green-blue (RGB) cameras for imaging. However, it has been concerned in pathological diagnoses that those images have a greater loss of information in the wavelength and spatial directions than images observed with optical microscopes. For this issue, spectroscopic imaging such as hyperspectral imaging (HSI) and multispectral imaging (MSI) is expected as a new sensing technology in the field of digital pathological image processing. It is expected that more detailed wavelength direction analyses will be possible by using HSI and MSI. This paper focuses on the affinity of pathological image processing with HSI and MSI, and introduces related studies.
