Abstract

For the improvement in the thermal shock performance which was necessary for epoxy resin of electric power equipment, we designed the compounded materials that considered about thermal stress reduction. In the materials design described above, the reduction of elastic modulus and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) are important factors. Then, we developed epoxy resins by two different materials design approaches of “the application of the low CTE filler” and “the addition of the low elastic particles”. As low CTE filler, we succeeded in the CTE reduction of the resin by the spherical fused silica. In addition, as low elastic particles, we succeeded in the elastic modulus reduction of resin by the rubber particles of the core shell structure. On these development resins, we confirmed that the thermal shock performance was drastically improved in either materials design approaches by newly established thermal shock test method.
