Abstract
An introductory survey is given to the special editorial project “Topology and Fluid Dynamics”, which is printed in this and the next issues. This project is a collection of review articles by the authors who presented papers in the joint meeting held in June 1991 in The Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Kyoto University. The important factors in the topology are pointed out first, and their relations to the fluid dynamical problems are explained. A hope is expressed on the future development of this aspect of fluid dynamics.
