This paper deals with one-dimensional finite-amplitude waves propagating vertically downwards through the non-uniform atmosphere by analytical methods, and investigates the behavior of shock waves at very large distances.
First, the linear wave equation for the non-uniform atmosphere is deduced and solved. Secondly, modifying the linearized solution by means of non-linearization technique, the propagating speed and strength of shock wave are found form that results.
Finally, the speed and strength of shock waves and the propagating wave from are calculated numerically for the non-uniform and the uniform atmosphere, and the results are compared between both cases.
