Abstract
Energy conservation is very important for resource conservation as well as anti-global warming. A fair wind way of 4 lanes with a cross sectional area of 154m2 and two tunnels, each 5 km long, are proposed and studied for road running energy conservation at a traffic flow of 3, 000 veh. /h and a large motor mixing ratio of 20%. Results show that the piston action effect of running cars may produce fair wind of approximately 7 to 9m/s, resulting in energy savings of 33% to 38% (a power consumption reduction of 2, 900 to 3, 300kW) compared with a 10 km conventional open high way.
