Abstract
We attempted a direct energy injection to a higher flow mode of Taylor-Couette flow directly by using modulated rotating speed of an inner cylinder. Targeting mode is wavy vortex flow (WVF) and then a characteristic frequency of WVF is set to a base frequency of the modulated rotation. Ultrasonic velocity profiler (UVP) measured an instantaneous velocity profile of the flow under the modulated rotation, and influence of the modulation in the flow was investigated. As the results, this method cannot realize a direct energy injection, and energy of WVF is reduced by the modulated rotation. The modulated rotation concentrates energy of WVF on the center frequency of WVF. It has a limit to the concentration and if an energy concentration goes beyond the limit, the energy of WVF decreases.
