Abstract
This paper reviews a generalized lubrication theory for ultra-thin gas film derived through a linearized Boltzmann equation, which is valid for both an arbitrary Knudsen number and an arbitrary accommodation coefficient. Numerical analyses of the equation which reveal differences of lubrication characteristics between the equation and the conventional approximation equation are shown. Experimental verification and application to flying head sliders are also briefly shown.
