Educational Use of the Social Networking Service and Social Learning

Abstract

The potential of social networking service: SNS for educational use and social learning to improve education effectiveness is discussed in this report through our current practice at Nagoya Bunri University. SNS was used for communication between the lecturer and the students in regular classes using iPads and in presentation settings. New social learning was also introduced in a class on mobile system development. This social learning system enabled users to write comments on e-textbook pages displayed on PC screens. The comments were shared through a computer network between teachers, student-assistants, and graduates as well as all the students in the class. This report shows how SNS and this social learning system were used in the classes.
