Decrease in Population According to Declining Birthrate and a Growing Proportion of Elderly People and Local Finance: The Strategy on Ube City as a Case

Abstract

Japan is confronted with the decrease in population problem in declining birthrate and a growing proportion of elderly people now. A decrease in the working age population brings a decrease of the gross domestic product. It is very difficult to stop the decrease in population though the central government announced the countermeasure. People’s migrations from the suburban city to the big city make the decrease in population problem of the suburban city more serious.

We examined various strategies to the decrease in population problem of Ube City from the content of the report and the interview. It is thought that effectively using the tool of the interindustry table etc. for the suburban city to use the lean budget effectively is necessary.
