Abstract

Atmospheric deposition in the bulk precipitation were investigated for total nitrogen (NO3-, NH4+, and dissolved organic nitrogen) in the Central Japan with an altitude range of 335-1850 m. Total nitrogen showed a strong altitude dependency and was particularly high in the suburban area due to acidic deposition. An excessive nitrogen deposition causes the nitrogen saturation. It was suggested that the balance of the material cycle in forest ecosystems have collapsed due to the nitrogen saturation.
