Methacrylate derivatives, of which allyl groups are substituted with leaving groups such as halogen atoms, undergo substitution reaction with various nucleophiles including amines, carboxylates, thiols and phenols in the presence of a base. This reaction is called as conjugate substitution reaction and proceeds efficiently even under ambient conditions. Recently, we have applied the conjugate substitution reaction to synthesis, modification, and main chain scission of polymers. Herein, we report synthesis, degradation and curing of poly(conjugated ester)s, unsaturated polyesters with acrylate skeletons.
