Organic porous materials are widely used in various fields such as gas storage, CO2 absorption, separation membranes, water treatment, pollutant removal, photocatalysis, energy conversion, batteries, electronics, biomedicine, and food, because of their tunable design of molecular structure and material properties. Porous polymer materials, which are one of organic porous materials, have various compositions, structures, properties, and applications. Therefore, different names are used for each material or sometimes even for similar materials. It often leads to misunderstanding and confusion. In this review, in order to grasp recent trends of research and development on porous polymer materials, some selected review articles published during recent decade are classified by material type and application field, then the manufacturing methods, structures, and functional properties of several typical porous polymer materials are outlined. Recent progress and future direction of the research and development are also described.
