Abstract
Phenolic resin, which has more than 100 years history, is highly reliable plastic and has been used at various applications. Especially at automotive application, taking advantage of its high heat resistance, high chemical resistance, high mechanical strength, high adhesive strength etc., phenolic resin has been used at shell mold, friction such as clutch facing and brake pad, tire blended with rubber. Moreover phenolic resin molding compound reinforced with glass fiber, has been used at engine peripheral parts, electrical components, pump associated parts etc. In recent years, trial to change metal parts to plastic parts has proceeded, so the need for phenolic resin molding compounds with high rigidity and high mechanical strength has increased. In this paper, it is described that the feature of phenolic resin and phenolic resin molding compound, application examples, and study for high performance material at automotives.
