Abstract
Outline of Polyurethane RIM technology, which includes its production process, necessary facilities and equipment, plant layout and main raw materials, is introduced.
In order to improve proccessability, productivity, surface appearance and physical properties of polyurethane RIM, much R&D work has been done.
This work contains the modification of formulation (replacement of glycol crosslinker with aromatic diamine for the improvement of productivity and physical properties), addition of internal mold release agent for multiple mold release, reinforcement by milled glass fiber for stiffness and dimensional stability, introduction of urea and/or amide linkage for heat resistance.
Structural RIM which incorporates organic and/or inorganic fiber mats in polyurethane polymer matrix has been developed and is expected as hopeful structural applications.
Technical development on the recycle and reuse of polyurethane RIM wastes is one of the most important issues.
Some examples of reuse technology are explained.
