Abstract
Plastic materials are generally stable both physically and chemically, and they were also believed to be so resistant to the action of microorganisms that their properties would not be degraded or corroded by fungi and bacteria.
According to the studies in my laboratory of wide range of microbial deterioration in industrial materials and products, however, it has been found that some plastic are vulnerable to the action of enzymes produced by fungi and bacteria. Even those plastics materials were believed to be safe against microorganisms under which they are used.
