In order to interchange documents, search documents and distribute documents as CD-ROM, it is necessary to make a database by structuring documents based on the contents. Standard Generalized Mark-up Language (SGML: ISO8879) is an international standard for processing and interchanging document by strictly describing document as a database. We have made a journal of treatise for the first time in Japan, using SGML. As a joint research with NACSIS (National Center for Science Information System), we have also produced a CD-ROM hypertext system and journal of treatise from one SGML fulltext database.
