Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is coming recently to public notice as a way of presuming the possible effects of products and services on the environment. Although the method is still under investigation, the packaging materials have been tried widely to assess through LCA. This paper describes the outline of LCA as well as a comparative case study between conventional solvent-based gravure printing and environmentally friendly water-based gravure printing by LCA. It is of highly importance to accumulate these case studies in order to enhance the accuracy of such simulative assessment as LCA.
