In this series of introductory lectures, digital image handling and process management techniques widely used in printing process such as input, image processing, storage, compression, transmission, and output are described. As the beginning of these series lectures, this paper gives the explanation of the outline of the whole lectures which are treated in the series. The characteristics of the digital technique comparing with the analog technique are also described.
