Abstract

After the Battle of Jinshin (672), Fujiwara-no-Fuhito, the loser tried hard to get out of this unfavorable position, while Nagaya-no-Ookimi, the winner was very eager to develop his political situation. They stood side by side, sometimes conflicting with each other and sometimes compromising with each other. After the death of Fuhito, the affairs of the state were conducted by Nagaya-no-Ookimi, and his politics were a strange fusion of "Ritsuryo System" and the "Koshin System", obviously influenced by the conflicts and compromises with Fuhito. The works of the Court poets such as Yamabeno-Akahito strongly reflect the characteristics of the age.
