Linguistic landscapes are gathering attention as a resource for teaching and learning Japanese language and they have begun to be utilized in education. In this report, the production objective and the content of the video resource "Linguistic Landscape of Tokyo: the Present and the Future" are introduced. This material was developed for Japanese language education and features regional and social changes in language, in view of the coming Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020. The method of publication on the internet and examples of its practical use in education are also reported.
Taking advantage of the practical educational opportunities offered through this video, Japanese learners come to realize not only some characteristics of a linguistic landscape but also the role of linguistic landscapes as a constituent element in society.
