This paper contemplates the self-consciousness in the paralogism, keeping in mind the transcendental apperception discussed in the Transcendental Deduction. In Section 1, I clarify two ambiguous aspects pertaining to the arguments made by the first edition of the fourth paralogism. In Sections 2 and 3, I resolve each of these unclear points, by referring to the narration in the second edition of the Paralogisms of Pure Reason and the Prolegomena
zu einer jeden künftigen Metaphysik. In Section 4, I confirm the subject of the fourth paralogism. It reveals that the self-consciousness is the fundamental foundation in Kant’s philosophy.
