Abstract

The green Cu2+-PVA complex has been characterized mainly by thermal analyses and magnetic susceptibility measurements, together with isolated Cu(OH)2 as a reference compound. An endothermic reaction due probably to dehydration of Cu(OH)2 to CuO was found to occur at 160°C, and the complex 'showed a subnormal effective magnetic moment like the isolated polynuclear olated compound of Cu(OH)2. These and other related observations present further evidence in support of our previous conclusion that the complex is a PVA complex of Cu(OH)2. Cu(OH)2 in the complex is probably in the form of amorphous ultrafine particles.
