Abstract
A survey was made on the patients with erythrodermic eruptions who visited dermatologic clinics of 13 institutes in the West Japan maily including university hospitals for 5 years during period of January 1967 through December 1971. Approximately 50 per cent of the patients were in age range between 60 and 70 years with the male affected 3 times as many as the females. Many cases were found with previous therapy of oral corticosteroids which was considered an unnegligible inducing factor towards erythrodermic eruptions. Several cases considered to be induced by the oral steroids are presented with discussion on its mechanism by means of animal experiments. It is presumed that the erythrodermic eruptions are more readily emerged after increased reaction and modification of the eruption by simultaneous reaction of the steroids and external factors through even sole long-term administration of steroid which might increase pre-erythrodermic state.
