One hundred and eighty eight cases of basal cell carcinoma in the Department of Dermatology including Tokushima, Yamaguchi, Kyushu, Kagoshima and Kumamoto University were studied clinicopathologically. In these cases, it was noted that an equality of the male-female ratio, 62.1 % in over 60 year-old age, appearing of the tumor mostly on the face especially on the lower eyelids, nose, nasolabial regions and the adjacent sites. Histopathologically, a solid undifferentiated type was seen in 69.9 %, an adenoid type in 10.4 %, and pigmented lesions were noted in 44.5 %, No cases with distant or regional lymph node metastasis were observed. Histogenesis of basal cell carcinoma was discussed from the above clinical, light and electronmicroscopical findings.
