Studies on Herpes Simplex Virus Infection of the Skin

—Virus Isolation in Vero Cells and Electron Microscopic Identification—

Abstract

Herpes simplex virus was isolated from lesions of 23 cases of herpes simplex in Vero cells. Virus particles were demonstrated electron microscopically in Vero cells with cytopathic effect. Filamentous structures were observed in the nuclei of the cells infected with genital, gluteal and femoral lesions. Rare cases of herpes simplex infection were demonstrated additionally.
