5-Fluorocytosine (5 FC) was used orally for the treatment of a case of chromomycosis in a 46-year-old housewife. At 15 weeks after the onset, 5-FC was very effective and she was almost cured clinically. Histologically and electron microscopically, spores in the dermis were markedly decreased in number and all of them had suffered a change of shape or been destroyed. However 33 weeks later, she had a complete relapse.
