A case of chromomycosis treated with 5-fluorocytosine was reported. The patient have been done several kinds of treatment for about fourty years. The verrucous or papillomatous lesions were seen on his left cheek, the eyelids, the nose, the mandibular region and the neck. Phialophora dermatitidis was isolated from the lesions. The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 5-fluorocytosine against the fungi was 15.6mcg/ml. 5-Fluorocytosine of 7.5g was given daily for ten months. Four months after the onset, the papillomatous lesions were flattened except the lesion of the eyelid. The papillomatous lesion of eyelid became smaller in size at the ten months after the onset of 5-fluorocytosine. The localized lesion was topically injected with amphotericin B and the patient was almost cured clinically. 5-Fluorocytosine was quite effective to the widespread lesions of chromomycosis, and the combination therapy with 5-fluorocytosine and topical injection of amphotericin B was more effective. It was considered that it was necessary to make the lesions rapidly cured with the combination therapy in the case which clinical course was prolonged and lesion was localized.
