Abstract
One hundred and fifty four cases of herpes zoster were analyzed, with special reference to distribution of lesions, underlying illness and predisposing factors, and duration of pain. The trunk and face were the most frequently affected, and in those over 50, trigeminal and the second and 10th thoracic lesions were the most frequently affected dermatomes. Circulatory disorders, especially hypertension was the most common affiliation, and malignancy was present in 18 (12%). Trauma (5) and irradiation (9) were suspected to be local predisposing factors. Severe pain in the early stage continued for 10∼15 days, followed by continuous dull pain of 20∼30 days duration and in some patients, especially in older people (fitful) momentary pain continued for over 3∼6 months.
