Five cases with cutaneous herpes simplex suspected of being transmitted via household appliances or medical appliances are reported. To study the possibility of virus transmission by such appliances, we periodically performed virus isolation from appliance materials on which virus solution had been painted or dripped. It was found that the virus could be isolated from all materials until 1 hour later. This result suggests that these appliances can convey the herpes simplex virus,
