Abstract
A 63-year-old female with multiple malignant hemangioendothelioma on the limb was treated with systemic administration of recombinant interleukin-2 (rIL-2). rIL-2 was administered intravenously once daily at a dose of 40×104 JRU. The total dosage of rIL-2 amounted to 1200×104 JRU. With erythematous eruptions in the lesions resulting in pale pigmentation, a significant clinical improvement was observed. Histologically, no tumor cells were noted in the lesions. As a result, the overall response was considered to be a complete response (CR). No signs of recurrence have been observed over the 9 months since rIL-2 was last administered. This result suggests that the systemic administration of rIL-2 would be effective for malignant hemangioendothelioma.
