Abstract
A 38-year-old female with lupus vulgaris lesions on her right cheek is reported. She first noticed acne-like eruptions on her cheek one year previously and had been treated by glucocorticoid ointment and a local excision at another hospital, but the small ulceration with scar formation did not improve. She visited our hospital to undergo further examinations. Mycobacterium tuberculosis was identified by a culture using OGAWA’s medium from the serous discharge of the ulcer on her cheek. A biopsy specimen from the cheek showed a nonspecific inflammatory lesion. Noepithelioid cell granuloma was observed. The tuberculin test was positive. A chest radiogram did not reveal any abnormal shadow. No mycobacterium tuberculosis grew in a culture from the sputum. No lesions of tuberculosis were observed except on the skin. The lesion was treated with RFP 450 mg per day p. o.. An improvement of the lesion was noticed after one month of treatment.
