Two Cases of Congenital Rubella Syndrome with Blueberry Muffin Lesions

Abstract

We report two cases of congenital rubella syndrome with blueberry muffin lesions. Histologically, the lesions were shown to comprise foci of dermal erythropoiesis. Using rabbit anti-human hemoglobin, we could observe aggregates of nucleated and nonnucleated erythrocyte precursors. This is the first report of blueberry muffin lesions occurring in Japan to date.
