Hyperflexion Injury of the Cervical Spine with Rupture of the Oesophagus and Paraplegia

Abstract
A man, aged 62 years, was admitted to our hospital after having been fallen the heaped freight forward on his neck. When seen on admission he was slightly unconscious.
Radiographs revealed fracture dislocation of C. 6 on C. 7, and neurologicaly he had spinal cord injury.
He died 24 days after admission.
Necropsy revealed rupture of the both longitudinal ligament on the bodies C. 6 and C. 7.
The spinal cord was seemingly damaged, and there was a tear in the back of the oesophagus.
