Abstract
Excellent results are reported of 7 cases (8 hips) treated with shelf operation and of 4 cases (4 hips) treated with Chiari' pelvic osteotomy.
Chiari' operation is superior to shelf operation in the following reasons;
1) wideness and better stability of the new roof.
2) rapidity of postoperative physiotherapy; patient can begin weight-bearing ambulation in 3 weeks after operation.
Chiari' operation has a good indication in the following cases;
1) severe dysplasia
2) gliding subluxation
3) dysplasia with severe osteoarthritis.
Shelf operation has also a good indication in dysplasia without subluxation and in bilateral dysplasia.
